Planned gifts help ensure Northwest Harvest will be able to continue to feed those in need in Washington, increasing our financial security so we may improve the already remarkable efficiency with which we feed the hungry.

To receive more information about these giving options, to make a planned giving arrangement or to let us know you have already included Northwest Harvest in your plans, please contact Development Director Kim Nelson at (206) 923-7431, (800) 722-6924  x1224 or kimn@northwestharvest.org.

Make a charitable bequest
, a gift made by an individual through a will or trust.  You can designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residual after other designations are fulfilled. Bequests to Northwest Harvest are used to continue our work of providing food in a manner that respects the dignity of those we serve.

Other estate planning instruments include gift annuities, IRAs, and insurance plans that transfer assets at the end of the donor’s life.

Join The Legacy Society, which honors individuals who have included Northwest Harvest in their estate plans. This is an opportunity to extend our warm appreciation to individuals who notify us of their thoughtful gift intentions.

Besides feeding those with nowhere else to turn, in most cases a planned gift also offers one or more of these benefits to the donor:
  • a current income tax deduction
  • increased cash flow from an asset, sometimes at more favorable tax rates
  • preserving an asset's appreciation in value while eliminating, reducing or deferring capital gains tax
  • professional management of assets relied on for income
  • gift and estate tax savings
Planned gifts may be made using various type of property:
  • cash
  • appreciated securities (whether publicly traded or privately held) owned more than a year
  • appreciated real estate owned for over a year
  • some items such as equipment, furnishings, vehicles and food
  • various assets such as life insurance policies, savings bonds, commercial annuity contracts and funds held in an IRA or other qualified retirement plan
Northwest Harvest encourages donors to seek professional estate planning and financial advice before deciding on a course of action.
