Closing the Hunger Gap 2017

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the 2017 Closing the Hunger Gap Conference! It was an honor to host this year’s conference, and we couldn’t have done it without the help of WhyHunger and the Closing the Hunger Gap (CTHG) Team. The event brought together more than 600 attendees representing emergency food providers, farms, and nonprofit organizations focused on health, education, and food justice.

As the CTHG Leadership Team described, “We’re all invested in ending hunger. We understand that hunger does not affect communities in a vacuum, rather that inequities in many forms and across many intersections affect whether a particular community or demographic is at greater risk for hunger. A lack of education and good, fair wage jobs; to grocery stores and farmers markets; to healthy culturally appropriate food; and to affordable healthcare and housing are all disproportionately felt by communities of color in our society. This means that if we are to talk about the root causes of hunger, we must talk about race and privilege.”

Northwest Harvest is proud to support the work of community-based efforts like Closing the Hunger Gap in our shared goal of ending hunger.

Northwest Harvest will be closed from 11/28 through 11/29. Please visit our statewide map or connect with 2-1-1 to learn about local food access programs.Map
